THE ULVERSTON AND LANCASTER RAILWAY.

The most spirited exertions are being used to complete the works of the above Railway, which will open up a direct line of communication between West Cumberland and the whole of the southern counties of England.

For want of such a line the commerce of West Cumberland has laboured under serious disadvantages. The traveling public will be able to effect a considerable saving both in time and money, whenever it is necessary for them to go south, there will also doubtless, be improved postal arrangements; and all the goods traffic between the towns of West Cumberland and Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, and London, instead of being sent round by Carlisle, will be thrown over the Whitehaven and Furness Junction Railway.

It is expected that there will be a considerable amount of iron ore traffic over this line to the midland mining districts, the effects of which will be greatly improve the financial position of the Furness line.
