LOOK WELL TO YOUR GROUSE! - An ingenious fraud, perpetrated more than once with success upon the dealers in our market, was detected on Saturday last, and should prove a warning to all purchasers to inspect their game narrowly. A brace of grouse had been selected by a gentleman in the neighbourhood which had every appearance of being fine plump birds, but when plucked it was discovered that one was little more than skin and bone, and that the appearance of plumpness was given by a quantity of barley paste being ingeniously inserted between the skin and the breast bone. The probability is, that the bird had been wounded, and lingered long enough to waste to a skeleton before it was found-when the fraud was practised to ensure a sale. **** |
