FORMER WHITEHAVEN TRADESMAN'S FATAL FALL ________ The funeral took place at Whitehaven on Wednesday, of Mr. Wm. WINTER, a former Whitehaven tradesman, who met an untimely death at Hyde, Cheshire. Mr. WINTER resided with a niece, Mrs. H. HERD, and on Saturday he fell downstairs and died half an hour later without regaining consciousness. At the inquest a verdict of "Accidental death" was recorded. Aged 77 years, Mr. WINTER formerly conducted for many years the grocery business in Roper Street, now in the hands of his nephew, Mr. T. R. ATKINSON, who succeeded him about twelve years ago. There is no family, his wife, a daughter of Captain WATSON, of Whitehaven, predeceasing him some years ago. Two other nephews are Mr. J. W. ATKINSON headmaster of Crosthwaite School, and Mr. WILSON of St. Bees. **************************** |
