NOMINATIONS OF
SHERIFFS.

    The time honoured ceremony of nominating  Sheriffs for the various
counties of England took place at the Law Courts  yesterday.
 
    The ceremony was presided over by the  Chancellor of the Exchequer, and
it was Mr. SNOWDEN's second appearance on the  Bench of the High Court during  
the life of the present  Administration.
 
    The nominations for Cumberland and  Westmorland were: -
 
Cumberland: -
 
Lt. Colonel Charles Aston JAMES, Barrock Park, Carlisle.
 
John Basil WRIGLEY, Steelfield Hall, Gosforth.
 
James WESTOLL, Glingerbank, Longtown.
 
Westmorland: -
 
Alfred Henry WILLINK, Whitefoot, Burneside, Kendal.
 
Edward Tempest Tunstall NORTH, Newton Hall,  Kirkby,  Lonsdale.
 
Edgar Frederick WRIGLEY, Oakland, Windermere.
