EMIGRATION -Yesterday (Friday) evening a large crowd of friends assembled at
Woodend Station to bid  good-bye to the following, who were leaving for South Africa,
and intend sailing to-day (Saturday) :-

J. CUNNINGHAM, T. CRELLIN, E. KEARTON, E. WATSON, J. A. BOWES,

SUDDEN DEATH AT CLEATOR - Yesterday a man named Robert JOYCE, was is about
sixty years of age, died instantly in his house at Cleator. He had not been in ill health.
The deceased is the uncle of Mr J. J. JOYCE, who has just left for South Africa.

HAILE DAY SCHOOL - Mrs RODGERS has been appointed mistress at the Haile and
Wilton School in the place of Miss RICHARDSON, who resigned on account of her
aunt's death

ANGLING AT ENNERDALE LAKE - Notwithstanding the somewhat unsuitable weather
for angling experienced of late, one or two fishermen at Ennerdale Lake have been very
successful. Mr MOOSE, Ullcoats, has taken 48 trout. Mr BIRKENHEAD, Enerdale,
among others was successful in capturing a trout scaling 2lbs; and on Thursday
Mr Lennett WEEKS obtained 18 trout, one of which was 2lb weight.

THE FATAL ACCIDENT TO MR A. L. BOYD - On Monday afternoon, Mr BOYD,
surveyor, Whitehaven, received a telegram to the effect that the body of his son, who
was supposed to have fallen into the sea at Easedale, near Oban, had been found.
Mr BOYD at once left for the place named and returned on Wednesday afternoon with
the remains of the unfortunate young man, interment taking place in the cemetery.

The body was found on Sunday afternoon close to where deceased was supposed to have
fallen in; it was lying in shallow water on the ebb of a spring tide.
Deceased was 21 years of age.

DEATH OF Mrs MUNCASTER, HAILE. - Mrs Catherine MUNCASTER, aged 79, died
at her residence, Beach Wood, Haile, on Tuesday, after a lingering illness.
The deceased, who had spent fifty years of her life at Haile, was much esteemed in the
locality, as was her late husband, who died about three years ago. The remains of the
deceased lady were interred at the Haile graveyard yesterday (Friday) afternoon in the
presence of a large company.
The burial service was conducted by the Rev Mr GABBOTT, Beckermet.

IMPRESSIVE FUNERAL AT ARLECDON - On Thursday afternoon the remains of the
late John BRANTHWAITE, Arlecdon, were interred at Arlecdon Parish Church, the
ceremony being attended by a wide circle of friends of the deceased. Deceased, who was
the eldest son of Walker and Sarah BRANTHWAITE, of Whinnah, Lamplugh, was in his
52nd year. He was a prominent Rechabite.
The service in the church and at the graveside was feelingly conducted by the Rev P. N.
KENNEDY. The hymn "Jesus lover of my soul" was sung at the grave, and Mr KENNEDY
gave a brief and forcible address upon the suddenness of the death of Mr BRANTHWIATE,
and pointing out very earnestly the need of living pious lives.
Deceased leaves a widow , three sons, and two daughters to mourn his loss.

METHODIST BAND OF HOPE, PARTON - The weekly meeting of this band of hope
was held on Monday evening in the Methodist Frees Church, Parton.
There was a good number of children and friends present: Mr James BIRD presided.

During the evening recitations and dialogues were given by the following children:
John MAXWELL, Dryden HEPBURN, John COATES, Mary GRAHAM, Mary JENKINSON,
Nellie JENKINSON, John FISHER, Fanny E. MAXWELL, Nellie BIRD, Alice DITCHBURN,
Henry BIRD, Isabella MAXWELL and Thomas BIRD.

Mr J. C. MAXWELL  was the accompanist. Three new members were enrolled.

THE LATE REV J. SHARPE OF HENSINGHAM - The remains of the Rev J. SHARPE,
who died at Hensingham on Monday, were interred on Thursday afternoon in Hensingham
cemetery. The funeral was attended by representatives of the Church of England; Wesleyan
Methodist, the Free Methodist, Primitive Methodist, and Congregational Churches.
The funeral service took place in the Wesleyan Church, the following ministers being
present;- The Rev J. JENKINS (Primitive Methodist), Whitehaven; Rev Robert PATTINSON (Primitive
Methodist) Workington; Rev Alex NAIRN (Congregational), Whitehaven;
and the Rev T. BARNES (Primitive Methodist), Cleator Moor.

The Rev R. PATTINSON read portions of scripture, and appropriate hymns were sung.
The Rev J. J. JENKINS read a eulogistic account of the deceased's life and experiences, and
the Rev A. NAIRN offered prayer. The coffin was borne to the cemetery by members of the
Whitehaven Primative Methodist Church, followed by Miss Mary SHARPE, only daughter of
the deceased, supported by the Rev James HERRIDGE(Episcopalian), Canada, a brother of
the late Mrs SHARPE. The burial service at the graveside was performed by the Rev
Thomas BARNES.

The coffin bore three wreaths, from his daughter, from Mr and Mrs KENNISH and family,
and from Mrs A. B. WERE.
