NEWS ARTICLES ___ WHITEHAVEN. Boonwood back-end fair was held last Saturday, when there was a good attendance of farmers. Fell ewes sold at from 16s to 20s; and tup lambs from 4s upwards. Business was very quiet, and a quantity of stock returned unsold. ***************** SATURDAY EVENING CONCERTS AT WHITEHAVEN. It has been decided by the Whitehaven Saturday Evening Concert Committee to hold a number of concerts during the months of December and January. The committee consists of: Dr. I'ANSON. Mr. W. McGOWAN Mr. DEES Mr. J. H. ROBINSON Mr. T. NICHOLSON Mr. J. L. PAITSON Mr. W. J. TYSON ******************* WRESTLING MATCH AT PARTON. On Saturday afternoon last, Joseph HOLLIDAY, of High Lowca, and William FISHER, of Parton, wrestled a match, the best of five falls, for £1, in the quoiting grounds behind Mr. George NUTTER's house (Lowther Arms Inn.) HOLLIDAY proved the winner, securing the two first and the fourth falls. ****************** GOSPEL TEMPERANCE AT MORESBY PARKS. A united mission commenced on Sunday last, conducted by Mr. J. A. SMITH. The chair had been taken by the Rev. A. WARRIS, Messrs. MACKEY and C. GOODALL. The meetings in the Mission Room and chapel have been packed. Many pledges have been taken, and the spiritual life of the place has been improved. ********************* |
