SHORT NEWS ARTICLES. ______ ACCIDENT TO CHILD AT WHITEHAVEN. On Wednesday morning, a child, 10 years of age, named Joseph WALLACE, residing at Windmill Brow, was taken to the Whitehaven Infirmary, having had the whole of the right hand taken off whilst playing with a hay chopping machine. The lad is doing well. ***************** CLEATOR AND CLEATOR MOOR CONSERVATIVE ASSOCIATION. Arrangements are being made for a billiard tournament by members of this Association, the sum of £5 having been given by the Management Committee of the Montreal Institute for the purpose. ****************** WHITEHAVEN WESLEYAN MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY. The eleventh session of the above Association was opened on Wednesday by a Public Tea and entertainment in the Wesleyan Schoolroom, Scotch Street, Whitehaven. The president of the Society, the Rev. O. FOSTER occupied the chair at the evening meeting. The annual report was read by Mr. W. FRANKS, the secretary and the chairman gave an inaugural address. The programme of vocal and instrumental music was then gone through the following taking part: - Mrs. TOWNSON Miss. BROWN Miss. FANNIN Mr. JOHNS Mr. M. WOODLEY Mr. A.
