Sudden Death


An inquest was held by Mr Jno Simpson, deputy coroner for the district of

Cockermouth in the Vestry of the Weslyan Chapel, Braithwaite yesterday

(Friday) touching the death of Ann Dixon aged 47 years wife of William Dixon

labourer , Mellbreak Cottages.  Mr T Wilson was foreman of the jury. Mrs

Holliday gave formal evidence of identification and deposed that she last

saw Mrs Dixon alive at 11.30 on Thursday morning with a basket of clothes

,Shortly afterwards Mrs Martha Davies informed her that Mrs Dixon was in a

fit . On going into the kitchen they found the deceased on the floor with her

chin resting on a chair spindle and her head thrown back.  They moved her

but saw no sign of life Nobody else was  in the house; the husband was

working on Whinlatter. Deceased had been  subject to fits for a long time

and had one on Jubilee day.   Mrs Davies deposed  to seeing the deceased

lying on the floor and she corroborated the evidence of Mrs Holliday.


The jury returned a verdict of "Death from natural causes,"
