The Wigton troop of the Cumberland and Westmorland Yeomanry Cavalry assembled at Wigton on Monday, the 8th inst., for their annual ball practice, under the command of CAPTAIN and ADJUTANT FRANKLIN. COLONEL HASSEL's three prizes were awarded as follows: 1st, JOHN CRAGGHILL, High Ireby 2nd ISAAC RICKERBY, Aiket Gate 3rd SIMPSON SCOON, Rewaldeth The men afterwards contended for a sweepstakes of six prizes, which were awarded as follows: 1st JOHN LAWSON, Bowness Hall 2nd JOSEPH ADDISON, Bolton Cottage 3rd JOHN REWLEY, Caldbeck 4th THOMAS ROUTLEDGE, Scotby 5th JOHN CRAGGHILL, High Ireby 6th JONATHAN HODGSON, Caldbeck After the ball practice, the troop marched into the town, headed by the Wigton band, and afterwards dined at the King's Arms inn, where a sumptuous dinner was provided by MR. and MRS. TORDIFF, and a very pleasant evening was spent under the able presidency of CAPTAIN FRANKLIN. The troop mustered well and in good order, and the ball practice was excellent, many of the balls hitting near the bull's eye. _____________________________ |
