COURTS - SATURDAY, OCT. 6. (Before W. N. HODGSON, Esq., the REV. W. REES, JAMES FARISH, Esq., W. WORDSWORTH, Esq., R. COWEN, Esq., and DR. BARNES. STEPHEN RUDD was brought up charged with stealing a quantity of apples, the property of JOHN WATSON of Easton. The Prosecutor said he did not wish to press the charge, and the case was therefore dismissed. __________________________________________________________________ ASSAULT - ELEANOR MURPHY was charged with assaulting MARY CUNNINGHAM. Complainant said she was speaking to another worman when defendant came up to her and, calling her a very ugly name, lifted her sickle and struck her. She was knocked down with the blow, and had a large cut inflicted on her hand. She could not say, however, whether it was her own or defendant's sickle which cut her. Defendant said her master had engaged her at 1s 9d a day, and when she was receiving her wages, complainant, who had only got 1s 6d came up and interfered. Complainant was still grumbling on about it on the road, so she went up to her and gave her a push; but that was all - she did not strike with a sickle, because she had not one in her hand. The Bench said complainant had no right to interfere about the wages, and dismissed the case. ______________________________________ |
