The splendid new organ recently erected in the above church by those eminent organ-builders, MESSRS. FOSTER and ANDREWS, of Hull, was opened on Friday last, when the REV. JOHN BARCLAY, A.M. vicar of Runcorn, preached an eloquent sermon from the 22nd Psalm, 3rd verse,  "O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel".

MR. P. CRANE, of Workington, presided at the organ, and played in his usual masterly style.

The choir, under the leadership of MR. HOUGHTON, of the National School, sung the various pieces selected for the occasion in a very creditable manner.

The organ contains 1,500 pipes,  26 drawstops,  2-1/2 octaves of German pedals,  and is quite a superior instrument.

A collection was made at the close of the sermon in aid of the organ fund, amounting to nearly £12.

A second sermon was preached by the REV. J. BARCLAY, A.M. on Sunday evening, the 7th inst. in behalf of the organ fund.  The rev. gentleman took his text from the 2nd chap. first general Epistle of St. Peter, and 5th verse, from which he gave a most eloquent and appropriate sermon to a crowded congregation, who listened with the greatest attention throughout the discourse.

A collection was made at the conclusion of the sermon, amounting to £7  6s  6d.
