APPLEBY.

A serious accident happened on Wednesday to a little boy about six years of age, son of WILLIAM SHAW, ostler at the Crown and Mitre inn.

It appears that the child had been playing about the stables, and it is supposed had attempted to touch one of the horses, when it struck out and hit him right in the forehead.

His cries immediately brought his father to the spot, and he was conveyed home almost covered with blood.

The little fellow is seriously injured in the face;  his brain was protruding in two places, and altogether but little hopes are entertained of his recovery.
