MR. CARLILE IS FOUND GUILTY. Mr. Carlile is found guilty, his trial occupied the attention of the Court three days. Our readers will find an account of the first days proceedings in our last page: want of room compels us to postpone the remainder till next week; but we cannot dismiss the subject, for the present without expressing our surprise and regret at the conduct of many of the newspapers in unnecessarily giving publicly to the different Counts of the declaration which contain the most objectionable passages in Paine's works; such conduct only tending to diffuse the blasphemy which it was the object of the trial, and should have been the wish of every good Christian to suppress. ****** |
