COCK BRIDGE HUNT. The Cock Bridge Hunt was held on Wednesday last, and fortunately for the sportsmen it was the only fine day in the week. The Company assembled at Mr. G. SHEFFIELD's, about ten in the morning and the hounds immediately cast off near Whitehall. The first hare made an excellent run, and was taken at last in a barn at Bagrow. The gentlemen rode chiefly in scarlet which gave the field a very gay appearance; among the foremost of the riders, and none were slack, we observed Mr. LAWSON the master of the hounds, Mr. VANE, the Rev. E. STANLEY, Mr. P. WYBERGH, Mr. GRAHAM of Netherby, the Lord Mayor, and Mr. C. PARKER. Many other gentlemen distinguished themselves in the chase, and afforded great amusement to the country people, who seemed to enjoy the scene almost as much as those who were immediately engaged in it. At five o'clock a very numerous company sat down to dinner, and a better dinner was never sat down to. The wine, we suppose, must also have been good - for not a man quitted his chair till one the next morning. G. STANLEY, Esq. of Posonby Hall, was elected Lord Mayor for the year ensuing, and was conducted to the chair with the usual ceremonies. - As "Reporters were excluded" it is not in our power to give any account of the toasts or songs, but the choruses were very full and loudly applauded. ****** On Monday last, the Radical reformers of Carlisle had a Meeting at Coalfell-Hill, near that city, Mr. BELL, stated, "For the purpose of denying themselves the use of certain exciseable articles, until a Radical Reform was obtained in the House of Commons." After long speeches from Mr. M'KENZIE, Mr. Jas. WEEMS, who proposed the resolutions and other radical Orators the Meeting quietly dispersed. ****** |
