On Tuesday evening a meeting of traders was held at the Golden Lion Hotel, Maryport, in connexion with the New Steam Shipping Company, by whom it is proposed to establish steamship communications between Liverpool and Maryport and other ports on the Cumberland coast. There was a large attendance of traders, amongst whom were: - Mr. J. HAMILTON Mr. R. H. HAMILTON Mr. T. CAREY Mr. T. BOYD Mr. J. ROSS Mr. S. S. BRIGGS Mr. J. FERGUSON Mr. J. WILLIAMSON Mr. I. TODD Mr. W. IRVING Mr. J. J. HINE Mr. DONALDSON Mr. COULTHARD Mr. EDDIS, of Whitehaven and Mr. RICHARDSON, of Liverpool, by whom the meeting was convened, represented the company, Mr. J. HAMILTON presided. The Chairman and Mr. BOYD reported that they had seen Mr. MITCHELL, seedsman, of Cockermouth, and Mr. Josiah HALL and Messrs. BROWN and RUSSEL, of the same town, who took a great interest in the new company, and this, considering that those gentlemen were large traders, was a very hopeful sign. The following were then appointed a committee for the purpose of making suggestions to the board of directors, with a view of meeting the wishes of the public as far as practicable: - J. HAMILTON T. BOYD I. TODD J. FERGUSON W. IRVING J. STEELE Mr. RICHARDSON explained that they would be able to start the boat by the first of December, if the Maryport Trustees got the shed ready in time. The Chairman, Mr. BOYD, Mr. TODD, Mr. IRVING, Mr. J. STEEL, and Mr. S. S. BRIGGS applied for shares in the company. ___________________ |
