KIRKBRIDE SCHOOL BOARD. _____ The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held in the School-room on Wednesday. There were present: - Rev. H. LUMB, chairman R. H. WILLIS William MARK William HOLLIDAY, the clerk Mr. HARRISON, master of the Board School. The attendance at the school was reported to be good and the children healthy. The usual bills were ordered to be paid. The chairman on behalf of the Committee of the Kirkbride and District Reading-room, requested the Board to grant the use of the school-room for lecture, the proceeds of the lecture, if any, to go to augment the funds of the reading-room. The request was granted. ********** HOLME FAIR ____ This old established fair was held on the Fair Hill, near Abbey Town, on Monday last. The quantity of stock brought forward was not so large as in former years. Southorns were represented by a few lots of two and a half year old and of stirks. Very few grazing heifers were shown and there was a slow demand for them. Calving cows were very dear - they averaged from£18 to £25. There was a very large show of unbroken horses - principally strong ones - which met with a ready sale at high prices. The attendance of the buyers seemed scarcely so large as in former years. __________________________ |
