CUMBERLAND BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION.

Our readers will perceive by reference to our advertising columns that the annual ball is fixed for Friday, the 11th of January next.

We are pleased to see that it is under the most distinguished patronage, and that there is a long list of stewards, from which we augur well for the funds of the charity.

An increase will be needed, for by the resolution of a special general meeting, it was resolved to increase the pensions of those at present on the list, who are 70 years of age, to 30s. per month, the others to receive that amount on attaining such age;  and that all persons in future elected should receive that amount per month.

If this resolution is confirmed at the annual general meeting in March next, it will of course cause a much greater expenditure;  the necessity for increased exertions, therefore, is very important.
