The running of Lady Like in the whole of her courses was universally admired.  At Brampton, it will be remembered, she was defeated by Bonnie Prince Charlie, - not for any want of speed, but by the heavy nature of the ground over which the running took place.

At Knipe Scar, however, the ground was smooth and in every way suited to fairly test her "mettle", and the admirable style in which she distanced her competitors fully realised the most sanguine expectations of her backers.

MR. BENNET discharged the onerous duties of judge to the satisfaction of all.  MR. THOMAS COATES officiated as slipper.

On their return to Carlisle, a numerous party sat down to an excellent and substantial repast at the Caledonian Hotel.  In the course of the evening, "Success to the next meeting" was proposed and drunk with rapturous applause.
