COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTION AT CLEATOR MOOR _______ DISQUALIFICATION OF THE LABOUR CANDIDATE. There were two candidates for the election of a County Councillor for Cleator South in succession to Mr. W. DIXON, who was recently appointed an alderman. The candidates were the Rev. Loftus Gerard W. LUMB, Trumpet House, Cleator, clerk in Holy Orders,a nd Mr. James WALKER, Towerson Orders, Cleator Moor, Shop Assistant. The former was nominated by Dr. H. Stagg BYERS, Cleator, and R. W. CAMPBELL, Cleator, while the latter was nominated by the Rev. J. W. STEWART and Hugh WILLIAMS. It was, however, discovered, that Mr. WALKER, who was the nominee of the Labour Party, was disqualified, as his name did not appear on the voting lists. Mr. LUMB is therefore returned unopposed. ********** |
