CHILDREN'S OPERETTA

AT WHITEHAVEN.

 

 

    The annual concert in connection with St. James' Church Lad's Brigade was held in the Town Hall last Friday evening, when a large audience was greatly pleased with the production by children of the grand operetta "The Mystic Mirror." Too much praise cannot be given to Mrs. J. T. RAY, who had trained the young ones to such a pitch of excellence. The items were all splendidly rendered, and the choruses were tuneful and sweet.

 

    Mrs. RAY had been assisted in the teaching of the dances by her sisters the Misses THOMPSON, and their efforts were rewarded with triumphal results. The scenery was very effective, and the dresses and the makeup of the children was beautiful.

 

    In the first scene the fisher lads and lasses were discovered at the beach at Silversea, while the second scene showed the cave of King Torpedo, with the  introduction of the sea faries and sea imps. In this scene the latest craze "The Tango" was charmingly danced by Violet FARRIES and Evelyn PLAISTED.

 

    Scene three took us back to the beach at Silversea, where Lizzie WALLACE and Alice CARSON danced the "Sailor's Hornpipe," and the whole play wound up with a grand finale. The following were the characters:

    Mr. W. J. JONES presided, and at the conclusion thanked Mr. J. BORROWDALE for having fitted up the electric light, also Mr. C. H. H. WALKER, of the Secondary School for his kindness in having lent the scenery. He also urged for an increase in membership in the C. L. B., and intimated that the enrollment service for new members was to be held on Advent Sunday evening.
