THE BAZAAR OPENERS. I cannot leave St. John’s without mentioning that Mrs. JAMES, who opens a bazaar on Wednesday, is a gentle woman of gracious personality, who with her husband, the High Sheriff, believes it to be her duty actively to encourage to help good causes in every part of the county, that Mrs. KEMP, the future Lady ROCHDALE, is a member of the notable Quaker family of Pease, of Darlington, and is a keen loyal worker for the Church of England, and that Mrs. C. W. LOWTHER is the wife of the National Government candidate who won the admiration of political friends and foes alike for the way in which he fought Mr. CAPE in the Workington Division. _________________ COCKERMOUTH’S MISFORTUNE. The misfortune of Cockermouth Urban in this matter is that it is in the middle of Cockermouth Rural’s territory. What influence Cockermouth’s unfavorable geographical situation may have upon the mind of the inspector of the Ministry of Health no one can say. But if he dwells only upon practical considerations there are plenty on Cockermouth Urban’s side. The more important of them are succinctly stated in the letter of Mr. MASON and Mr. DENWOOD. These points are formidable. |
