The Maryport Oddfellows celebrated their 61st anniversary yesterday (Friday) which took the form of a knife and fork tea, a free concert and dance. The tea was well patronized, the catering being in the hands of Mrs. J. BENSON, of Shipping Brow. The hall was filled to overflowing at the concert which followed, at which Mr. A. CRERAR, Maryport occupied the chair. The following artistes contributed to the programme: - Mr. E. GILBERTSON G. D. THOMPSON J. HEWITT BARKER Mrs. BARKER Miss. H. GIBBONS Master “Tot” OSTLE, the Seaton boy elocutionist, pleased the large audience. Mrs. BARKER accompanied. Messrs. ROE and WILSON, two vocalists of Whitehaven, were unable to attend. A vote of thanks was accorded to the to the Chairman, by Bro. W. E. FISHER ( the hon. Secretary), and seconded by Bro. J. ROPER. Bro. J. BARNES, sen., proposed a vote of thanks to the artistes, which was endorsed by Bro. J. McKAY. The dance was well attended and dancing was kept up vigorously until the early hours of the next morning. Bros. D. FISHER and J. HODGSON acted as M.C.s and music was supplied by MOSSOP’s “Melody Makers.” |
