COMING-OF-AGE
DINNER.

It is 21 years since a branch of the National Union of Journalists was established at Carlisle, and on Friday night a coming-of-age dinner was held at the Central Hotel, Carlisle, when the guests of the evening were Mr. W. E. BETTS, president of the Union, and Mr. H. M. RICHARDSON, the general secretary. There was in attendance of about twenty-five journalists, mostly from Carlisle.

After dinner a short toast list was submitted. Mr. C. G. BONE, Keswick, one of the original members of the branch, proposed a toast of the branch, and it was responded to by Mr. E. WILLIAMS, Carlisle, a past president of the Union.

The toast of the Union  was proposed by Mr. R. S. FORSYTH, Carlisle (this district’s representative on the Executive Committee), and responded to by Mr. BETTS and Mr. RICHARDSON.

All the speakers dealt with matters of importance to the journalists.
