IMPORTED PIT PROPS ______ Mr. T. CAPE and Men’s Safety. In the House of Commons on Thursday, the Duchess of Atholl asked whether the restriction of imports could not be extended to pit props and sleepers and also to a large amount of timber imported from Soviet Russia. Mr. RUNCIMAN pointed out that these articles did not come within the scope of the Bill and could not be included without enlarging the range of the measure. It was, however, a matter that would be borne in mind when a more extended review of the position was being made. Mr. T. CAPE and Mr. TINKER (Leigh) reminded the President that only the very best quality timber could be used for pit props. The dominating consideration was the safety of the men. |
