The Rev. Richard Crewdson, whose death has occurred at Stockport at the age of 75 years, was one of the most popular ministers in the Primitive Methodist Connexion He went to Maryport in 1904, and became so popular a preacher that no church in the district was large enough to accommodate the people who flocked to hear him. He took a prominent part in the revival at Ellenborough in 1905, which was probably the greatest religious movement in West Cumberland for the last fifty years. During his ministry in Maryport the new Primitive Methodist Church at Ellenborough was built in 1907, at a cost of £2,500. |
