Early on Sunday afternoon a serious accident occurred at the bend in the road about 100 yards on the Boot side of the King George Inn, Eskdale. It appears that Mr. Arthur HOLLAND, of Rose Cottage, Newbiggin, Penrith was driving his motorcycle and sidecar from the direction of Forge Farm to Boot with his wife and child in the sidecar. He emerged slowly and safely onto the main road and when taking the bend to his left collided with a motor cycle driven by Mr. John Tyson IRVING, Low Kinmont, Corney, with Arthur IRVING, Penny Hill, Boot, on the pillion, traveling from Boot to Eskdale Green. HOLLAND sustained severe facial injuries and injuries to his left foot. His wife was also injured in the leg, but the child escaped injury. P.C. MARTIN and Dr. CLARK, Gosforth, who had been summoned, were quickly on the scene and HOLLAND was removed to Whitehaven Hospital on the Eskdale stretcher in Mr. BAIN’s car. Both machine’s were badly damaged but the brothers IRVING escaped serious injury. |
