SCOTTER Lieut Colonel IRWIN, who was Adjutant of the regiment at the outbreak of the war, in proposing the toast of “The Regiment” stated that although the regiment was disbanded, the name still survived in that the local batteries of the artillery were now known as the Westmorland and Cumberland Yeomanry Batteries of Artillery, who in every way maintained the high standard of efficiency which always prevailed when the regiment was cavalry. Lieut.-Colonel SENHOUSE, R.M.Q.S. WALKER and S. Q.M.S SOWERBY replied. The toast of the “Officers” was proposed by Sergeant DENT, and replied to by Major J. W. CROPPER. In proposing a vote of thanks to the committee having the arrangements in hand, Major the Hon. C. W. Sergeant LEVETT, who acted as secretary to the committee replied, and also announced that the register of old comrades now contained 200 names and addresses, and it was hoped that all ex-members of the regiment not present would note that the re-union would take place annually on the Saturday following Armistice Day. The evening concluded with a concert, community singing of old regimental songs being a special feature. |
