______ Maryport Bride and Workington Bridegroom The marriage of Miss. Doris KIRK, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William KIRK, 65 Lawson Street, Maryport, to Mr. Daniel BARNES, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred BARNES, Banklands, Workington, took place at the Presbyterian Church, Maryport, on Tuesday, the Rev. F. C. GARDINER, Workington officiating. The bridegroom who is employed as an accountant at Workington, is the secretary of the Workington Badminton Club, and a member of the Workington Golf Club, while the bride is a member of the Maryport Athletic Lawn Tennis Club. The bride, who was given away by her father, was charmingly attired on a dress of beige colored georgette and handworked lace, with a beige velour hat and gold shoes. She carried a bouquet of pink roses and white heather. She was attended by Miss. Marjorie BARNES, sister of the bridegroom, and her youngest sister Chrissie, as bridesmaids. Miss. BARNES was becomingly attired in a powder blue georgette dress, with black hat and black shoes. Miss. Chrissie KIRK looked charming in a powder blue satin dress with crown cap and shoes of silver. Mr. Leslie IREDALE, a friend of the bridegroom acted as best man, and Mr. Tom KIRK, cousin of the bride, was groomsman. After the ceremony a reception was held at Percival’s Café, in Curzon Street. The bridegroom’s gift to the bride was a tortoise dressing set, and the bride’s gift to the bridegroom, a silver mounted umbrella. The bridegroom’s gifts to the bridesmaids were a silver wristlet watch to Miss. Chrissie KIRK and leather handbag to Miss. BARNES. The bride and bridegroom left later for Scotland where the honeymoon will be spent. The bride traveled in a beige chenille jumper suit with hat and coat to match. |
