           WHITEHAVEN COURSING MEETING
TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY, NOV. 16th and 17th
                            ~~~~~~~~~
Stewards:  J. LINDOW,  C.B. KENNEDY,
                 J. LONGMIRE and R. TWISADAY, Esqrs.
This meeting commenced on Tuesday morning, by permission and over the
estates of the EARL OF LONSDALE, at Harris Moor.
Mr. H. BRAITHWAITE was appointed judge, and Mr. COATES officiated as
slipper.
The drawing took place at Mr. RICHARDSON'S, the Turk's Head, on Monday
afternoon;  and soon after its termination a number of the members and
friends sat down to a capital dinner, provided by Mr. RICHARDSON.
W. PAITSON, Esq., in the chair;  Mr. LONGMIRE, one of the stewards, occupied
the vice-chair.
During the dinner, the Cup, presented by CAPT. SPENCER, of Prospect House,
was placed upon the table for the inspection of the gentlemen present.  It
is a very handsome piece of plate, the top of the lid being surmounted by a
greyhound, in frosted silver.  The absence of the gallant captain from the
festive board, in consequence of the death of J. SPENCER, Esq., his father,
was an event occasioning no little regret for a double reason.
