BOROUGH MAGISTRATE'S OFFICE continued........... WEDNESDAY, NOV. 17 Present: The Mayor (R. FERGUSON, Esq.) and J. HOWE, Esq. STEALING A PAIR OF BOOTS William DIXON, shoe-maker was charged with stealing a pair of boots, the property of John SLACK, boot and shoe-maker, Bank Street. It appeared that the prisoner was employed by Mr. SLACK, and that he had gone to the shop yesterday morning for some work. The prosecutor left him in the shop while he went down stairs for some material. After the prisoner had left the shop, the boots were missed, and they were afterwards found at a pawn-shop, where they had been pledged by the prisoner. Some time ago, the prisoner was brought before the Bench for having suffered his wife and family to become chargeable to the parish. Mr. SLACK upon that occasion kindly came forward and paid 25s to keep him out of gaol, and, as Mr. SLACK observed, "this was his gratitude for it." Committed for trial at the Sessions. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
