Barley is both very ready sale and very slow; extreme fine brings 40s, and moderate only 30s, malting qualities; grinding unaltered in value. No alteration in oats and beans, and the sale limited. Saturday, November 13. - The supply of English wheat was moderate, but more than equal to the demand and it met a dull sale at barely last week's rates, though we make no alteration in the quotations. There was little inquiry for foreign samples. The finest barley maintains its price; all other qualities are dull and the turn lower; and oats and beans barely maintain their value. - Averages: Wheat 855 qrs, 41s 6d; barley 25 qrs, 36s; peas 15 qrs, 50s 8d. Imports for the week ending the 9th instant: Ireland - Barley 569 qrs; oats 3555 qrs; Indian corn 95 qrs. Foreign - Wheat 4278 qrs; barley 12,126 qrs; oats 703 qrs; beans 598 qrs; peas 632 qrs; Indian Corn 1300 qrs. _______________________________________ MANCHESTER, Thursday, November 11. - All descriptions of wheat met a fair inquiry at the rates of this day week. Flour was in better demand at late rates. For oats and oatmeal the inquiry was limited, without any change in value. Foreign and English beans in slow demand at the currencies of last Thursday; whilst other articles of the trade remain without alteration. _______________________________________ NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE CORN MARKET, Nov. 13. - At market this morning there was a very abundant show of wheat from the growers, and the arrivals coastwise as well as from abroad being likewise upon a liberal scale, a portion of which having gone direct into the hands of our millers, the factors' stands were in consequence comparatively neglected. Whilst at a decline of 1s per qr, a clearance of farmers' samples was readily effected. In flour there is not change of importance. Malting barley, unless fine, most difficult to quit; still former value is about sustained. Malt in limited request, and inclining cheaper. Beans, peas, and oats unaltered. Arrivals: Coastwise - Wheat 4184 qrs; barley 1115 qrs; malt 123 qrs. oats 450 qrs; peas 60 qrs; flour 1435 sacks. Foreign - wheat 3554 qrs; barley 540 qrs; oats 340 qrs; peas 490 qrs; beans 340 qrs. Averages: Wheat 1747 qrs, 42s 5d; barley 145 qrs, 27s 1d; oats 83 qrs, 22s 7d; beans 14 qrs., 41s 8d. ______________________________________ NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE CORN MARKET Tuesday, Nov. 16. - At this day's market, there was a better attendance of buyers, but as the prices offered were lower than holders were disposed to take, only a limited business was done, at a reduction of 1s per qr on the rates of this day week for new English wheat. In old foreign, there was little done, but late prices were maintained. Rye, beans, and peas were each rather lower. Barley, with a large arrival, was a heavy sale, at barely late rates. Malt had little attention. Oats dull, without much change in price. Flour moved off slowly, but at nearly former terms. _______________________________________ PRESTON, Saturday, November 13. - an inactive demand for each article of the trade has been the ruling feature of the week; but more firmness having been manifested by holders, the downward tendency in prices has been slightly checked. There was a fair supply of English wheat at market to-day, the sale for which was slow; and, except for the finest samples, last Saturday's rates were with difficulty maintained. Beans sustain our last quotations. From warehouse, French red wheat met a fair inquiry at 62 2-1/2d to 6s 4d per 70 lbs. the value of Irish nominally remains the same, but it fails to command the slightest attention. Flour unchanged. Oats and oatmeal tolerably steady in price, but they move in the merest retail; fair to good qualities of the latter 25s 6d to 26s 6d; prime 27s, and extra up to 28s 6d per 240 lbs. _______________________________________ WAKEFIELD GRAIN MARKET. Friday, November 12. - Vessels are generally kept back by contrary winds, but there is a fair show of wheat from warehouse; there is every appearance of the trade having made a stand, such is the indication in most leading markets, agricultural as well as of consumption; to-day we are fully as dear for this article, though devoid of any activity from the low price of flour, fine white in request, and rather dearer, and on the whole a better feeling exists. Choice barley fully maintains previous value, but all other descriptions sell very slowly, and prices are rather easier. Beans steady in value, as well as oats and shelling. Other articles unaltered. Averages for the week ending Nov. 4: Wheat 4622 qrs, 43s; barley 304 qrs, 34s 2-1/4d; beans 20 qrs, 43s 6d; peas 20 qrs, 40s. _______________________________________ WISBECH, Saturday, November 13. - A fair supply of wheat, and moderate of other grain. The best dry wheat is 1s per qr dearer, and other kinds in better demand at last week's prices. Spring corn as before. Wheat, white 44s to 46s; extra 48s; red 39s to 40s; extra 42s, 63 lbs. per bushel; oats 12d to 12-12d per stone; beans old, 47s to 48s; new 42s to 44s per qr. Averages for the week ending November 5: Wheat 1900 qrs 4 bush, 38s 6-1/2d; oats 439 qrs, 22s 1d; barley 26 qr, 39s 9d; beans 59 qrs, 42s; peas 42 qrs. 46s 4d. _______________________________________ LONDON CORN EXCHANGE, Monday, Nov. 15. - Of ***** barley and oats the arrivals last week were heavy; of other grain and flour moderate. The exports were 34 qrs barley, 2491 qrs oats, 58 qrs beans, 110 qrs peas, and 385 cwt flour. The receipts of English wheat were 6621 qrs; of foreign 10,419. The morning's supply from Kent and Essex was moderate. The improved tone in sales continued; without, however, any rise in prices. There was also a more healthy trade in fair Russian, and other qualities of foreign, at fully the previous rates. Of English flour there were 17,039 sacks, of foreign 1612 sacks 1*85 brls. Norfolks were held for rather more money, with buyers at 28s in quantity; the foreign and town trade being unaltered. The quantity of British barley was 3753 qrs, of foreign 20,181 qrs. The price of malting sorts was well maintained, and there was a free country demand for grinding descriptions at former rates. The malt trade was steady for fine qualities, but inferior were very dull and rather in buyers' favour. Of oats the total supply was 95,216 qrs, of which 88,497 qrs were foreign, 827 qrs English, 1272 qrs Scotch, and 4620 qrs Irish. These successive large arrivals being beyond the consumptive demand, with dealers well provided, prices again gave way 1s per qr.; the supply of linseed was 21,814 qrs, with 1420 qrs exported. Baltic qualities being scarce, prices were supported, there being a steady export inquiry. Cake remained without change. Very little was doing in the seed market, dealers continuing generally resolved to wait till nearer the season before getting into stock. Cloverseed and trefoil were, however, firm. Tares, canary, mustard, rape, hempseed, carraway, and coriander much as last quoted. "Irish mails just in." Cork: 2d to 3d per barrel lower for oats. Waterford: 3d to 6d lower for wheat. Barley rather cheaper. _______________________________________ LONDON CORN EXCHANGE, Wednesday, Nov. 17 - Arrivals small. Weather very cold. In wheat no alteration in demand or value. Oats in better demand at Monday's prices. Barley a slow sale but unaltered in value. _______________________________________ GLASGOW CORN MARKET, Wednesday, Nov. 17. - Good attendance to-day, but the actual business which transpired was quite of a retail character. Foreign wheat without change in value; barrels, 3d to 9d cheaper. Irish flour reduced 1s per sack, but choice barrels fully supported last weeks' rates. Fine barley, malting qualities, the turn against sellers; secondary descriptions gave way 6d per 320 lbs. Beans dull at a further reduction of 3d to 6-1/* per boll. Buyers of oats and oatmeal had also the turn in their favour. Quotations of Indian corn, in the absence of demand nominal. _______________________________________ HULL CORN MARKET, Tuesday, November 16. - English wheat was more liberally supplied, but sold well at 40s 43s per quarter. Barley scarce and unaltered. Beans, peas, and oats were more plentiful, and prices favoured buyers. _______________________________________ LEEDS CORN MARKET, Tuesday, November 16. - The long-detained vessels having arrived, there was a good show of grain. Wheat was firm at full rates, with fair business. Barley scarcely met with any attention, but fine heavy sorts were quite as dear. Beans steady. Other articles unaltered. _______________________________________ LIVERPOOL CORN MARKET, Tuesday, November 16. - The business this morning was not increased in amount, but the market may be characterised as steadier for both wheat and flour, with less pressure to sell. Oats and oatmeal taken only for mere consumption, and are in no respect changed in value. Beans again the turn easier. Barley unaltered. There is no amendment in the demand for Indian corn, and though an actual further reduction is not quoted, buyers have still slightly the advantage. _______________________________________ EDINBURGH GRAIN MARKET, Wednesday, Nov. 17. - We had a large market to-day. Sales not so heavy for wheat and barley. There were 1,*73 qrs wheat. Prices were 4s down on the top, and 3d down on the average. 235 qrs unsold. There were 3,362 qrs barley. Prices were 6d up on the top, and same as last week on the average. 950 qrs unsold. There were 2,380 qrs oats. Prices were 6d down on the top, and 9d down on the average. 1,031 qrs unsold. There were 110 qrs beans. Prices were 3s 9d down on the top, and 1d down on the average. 6 qrs unsold. AVERAGE PRICES Wheat 42s 2d 7-12ths Barley 30s 11d 4-12ths Oats 22s 0d 9-12ths Beans 40s 2d 0-12ths ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ==================================== |
