The "NEWCASTLE JOURNAL", has published a somewhat lengthy review of the operation of the new law on bankruptcy for the last twelve months, and, on the whole, speaks of it most favourably as a valuable improvement which has tended greatly to the benefit of the commercial community. Such may very naturally be the impression of those upon the spot where the court is held; but assuredly, the creditors and others connected with bankruptcies at a distance, have reason to come to a different conclusion. Unfortunately, Carlisle, Penrith, and other places in the district has been much interested in the Bankruptcy Court of late; and from all parties, the complaints are loud and frequent, as to the evils of the District Court being at such a distance. The expense and inconvenience of attending from all parts of this county at Newcastle, is incalculable. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
