BURGLARIES AT EGREMONT.....On Tuesday night, or early on Wednesday morning, several daring acts of house robbery were committed at Egremont.

The house of MRS. LONG, shopkeeper, was entered by the back-window, and nearly £6 in money, with other articles, was stolen.

On the same night, the house of MRS. HOLLIDAY was entered, but the thieves merely removed a case of surgical instruments, which they left behind them in the garden.

Subsequently an attempt was made to break into the dwelling house of MR. G. CHAMBERS, grocer, when the parties - two - men were distincly seen by a female opposite;  but they were disturbed by the approach of a conveyance, and decamped before an alarm could be given.

The fellows then proceeded to the house of MRS. ROOK, tallow chandler, which they entered by the window of the back room.  MISS BENSON,   MRS. ROOK's daughter,   happened to be up at the time, and hearing a noise in the room, immediately entered it, and to her great consternation beheld the two villains standing on the floor before her.  With a courage, which would have done credit to the other sex, she asked them in a fearless and commanding tone, what business they had there ?

One of the rascals immediately jumped out of the window, which was still open, and ran off;  the other instantly shut the door and held it, but MISS BENSON gave a loud alarm to the family, and a young man presently came to her assistance, and burst open the door, when the other burglar also leaped out of the window, and escaped as his companion had done, leaving an iron instrument on the floor, which they had been using in their nocturnal depredations.

Two men of suspicious appearance had been previously seen lurking about Egremont, but they have disappeared, and we have not heard that any clue to the offenders has been discovered.
