The Maryport Advertiser - May 5, 1882

THE “WEST CUMBERLAND.”
____

Intelligence was received in Maryport yesterday from New York that this vessel, which was on voyage from Maryport and Londonderry, was spoken on the 26th of April, and her bows stove in, having been in contact with some ice which this season has proved so very dangerous to vessels engaged in the Atlantic trade.

It is further reported that the crew were engaged throwing the cargo overboard, and from the fact that no assistance was asked for by those on board the “West Cumberland” it is presumed there was no immediate danger to the ship.

The owners, Messrs. HINE Brothers, confidently hope to hear of her arrival at New York in the course of a few days.
