THE PROPOSED RAILWAY
_______

The proposed railway between Maryport and Silloth, via Allonby, is attracting a great deal of attention. If the directors of the North British Railway construct a new wet dock at Silloth we have no hesitation in saying that they do not follow up the undertaking by the construction of a railway along the coast to Maryport, some other company much less interested will probably do so.

With a wet dock and direct communication with the coal and iron fields of West Cumberland, Silloth would not long mourn over the lack of trade. In the meantime, however, no ironmaster will care to invest his capital until he is certain that dock accommodation  and railway communication with the mining districts will be established.
