APPREHENSION OF A BIGAMIST
AT WORKINGTON.

 A man named Thomas LLOYD, a native of South America, employed as a third engineer on board the steamship Muncaster, which arrived in Workington harbour on Monday, was apprehended by Inspector DODD and Sergeant PICKARD on Monday night on board his vessel, a warrant from Leith, where he was wanted on a charge of bigamy.
 
 On Tuesday morning he was handed over to a constable from Leith.

NEW CHURCH FOR
SEATON.

 It is stated that a contract for the erection of a new church in the village of Seaton was signed on Monday, the contractors being from Penrith. The vicar, the Rev. Thomas HODGES, of Camerton, has long been moving towards the erection of the new church, the parish church being three miles distant from Seaton. As soon as possible the ceremony of laying the foundation stone will take place.

PROPOSED NEW WESLEYAN
SUNDAY SCHOOL.

 For years past the Wesleyan Methodists have held their Sunday School in Tiffin-Lane, but they have lately disposed of the building to the Liberals who require the ground on which it stands for a new public hall, which they intend building at an early date. In consequence of this the Wesleyans contemplate building schools, much more commodious than the building they are at present making use of, on ground and behind and adjacent to their church in South William - street.

LOCAL PETITION TO PARLIAMENT.
 
 In the House of Commons on Monday night a petition was presented by Mr. AINSWORTH, from Allonby, in favour of Sunday closing of public-houses.

SPECIAL RELIGIOUS SERVICES
AT MARYPORT.

 On Sunday last, Mr. William WILSON, son of Mr. Robert WILSON, of Broughton Grange, commenced a series of evangelistic services at the Athenaeum, Maryport, under the auspices of the home Mission.
 
 A few weeks ago Mr. WILSON conducted special religious services at Flimby with remarkable success., and the same amount of success appears to attend his labours in this town.

BRIGHAM WELSEYAN CHAPEL.

    Yesterday evening a tea and public meeting were held in the Wesleyan Chapel, Brigham, on behalf of the funds of the new chapel. The meeting was addressed by the Rev. W. WATSON, of Cockermouth and others.
