MATTHEW WATSON. _______ Matthew WATSON, colliery manager, Maryport, was summoned for having on the 24th April, broken two large saplings the property of Mr. Henry Frazer CURWEN, of Workington Hall, which were growing in Flimby Wood. The person who laid the information was not present to support the charge and the case was dismissed. *** WILLIAM ROBLEY, ALEXANDER KENNEDY AND CHRISTOPHER CROUDACE. ________ William ROBLEY, Alexander KENNEDY and Christopher CROUDACE, all of Flimby, and each about 12 years of age, were summoned for having on the 22nd April, maliciously broken some boughs of four Scotch fir trees, growing in Flimby Wood, the property of Mr. CURWEN, of Workington Hall. The Clerk on seeing the defendants, expressed his surprise at their size, and said he thought they had been men. The chairman said he thought the person who laid the information had acted wrongly. He had taken out these summonses , but he, (the chairman) did not know whether he had the authority of Mr. CURWEN to do so, and the complainant did not appear. The boys were discharged. |
