LIBERAL ASSOCIATION OF IPSWICH. _______ It is very satisfactory that the Council of the Liberal Association of Ipswich has passed a resolution declaring it’s abhorrence of the sentiments reported to have been expressed by a speaker at a recent Liberal meeting in that town on the subject of Landlord shooting in Ireland. The speaker - who, by the way, seems not to be, as was supposed, the secretary of the association - disputes that his words as spoken conveyed the meaning attributed to them in the report, and in this contention he is said to be supported by the general opinion of those present. He also “most distinctly disclaims and sympathy with such crimes.” This is well; and the Council of the Ipswich Liberal Association expresses it’s pleasure at the repudiation and the disclaimer. But its members have shown a just conception of their duty in lacing upon public record, in a most emphatic manner, the fact that their detestation of the outrages which have so long disgraced Ireland is as keen as that entertained by any other section of their countrymen. The matter is one with regard to which no political body can safely remain under the slightest breath of suspicion. |
