GREAT FIRE IN SCOTLAND.
______

A fire broke out about eight o’clock on Saturday evening in a basket makers shop in the New Market Buildings, Aberdeen, and before nine the whole building, the largest in Aberdeen, which was insured for £40,000, was destroyed. The damage estimated at £50,000.

The fire brigade was promptly in attendance, but were obliged to confine their efforts to saving the surrounding buildings. The hall was crowded with purchasers, and there was a hasty exit. On Monday morning a dead body was recovered, and was recognised as that of CRICHTON, a street porter. The body, which was found in one of the side galleries, was very much charred.

It is believed no other lives have been lost. The building was completely gutted.
