COLLIERY EXPLOSIONS.
_______

Two disastrous colliery explosions are reported. One occurred at midnight on Monday at the Victoria Colliery, Bruntcliffe, Morley, Leeds. Six men and a youth were killed. An exploring party led by Mr. LAING, manager of the colliery, had a very narrow escape in consequence of a second explosion while searching the workings. A considerable number of men, employed in a pit about a mile and a half distant, were got out safely. No cause is assigned for the accident.

On Tuesday morning an explosion occurred at Stratford Mine, near Atherstone, Warwickshire. Nine miners were in the pit at the time, and it is feared that all have lost their lives. An exploring party led by Mr. W. S. DUGDALE, the owner of the colliery, were more or less burned by a second explosion, and were rescued by a second party with great difficulty.

One of the rescuers has succumbed to his injuries, and two or three of the others are in critical condition.
