LOWTHER, M.P. has arranged to visit Italy during the Whitsun recess. __________________________________ For the first time in five years, a wedding took place at Wasdale Head Church, on Monday afternoon. __________________________________ LORD LONSDALE arrived at Lowther Castle on Thursday morning, and left again on Saturday for the south. __________________________________ MR. F. A. CIAPPESSONI, of Cleator Moor, was present at a co-operative conference at Newcastle on Saturday. __________________________________ The death took place at Lonsdale Place, Whitehaven, on Tuesday, of MR. JOHN PICKTHALL, about 70 years of age. __________________________________ MR. JOHN SCOTT, J.P. of Wetheral, a successful London merchant, died on the 12th inst., in Kent, aged 88 years. __________________________________ THE REV. W. G. C. HODGSON and family, of Distington, are at present away from the parish on a holiday trip. __________________________________ THE VEN. ARCHDEACON DIGGLE is at present the guest of the Rural Dean, the REV. G. B. ARMES, at Cleator Vicarage. __________________________________ The Ulverston general district rate is this year reduced 3d in the £, and a reduction in the price of gas was also advocated. __________________________________ A Cleator Moor man named MARSH, and a native of Carlisle, named MALINS, were burned to death at Dumfries on Sunday last. __________________________________ Foreign ore freights business are in good demand. Aquillas to Barrow, 8s 6d; Benisaf to Barrow, 8s 3d; Santander to Workington, 7s 3d. __________________________________ MR. JOHN SOUTHWARD, joiner, of Waberthwaite, died under distressing circumstances in Colton Church-yard, on Monday last, aged 57 years. __________________________________ MR. MATTHEW WALTON, of Orchard House, Dovenby, was very ill yesterday (Wednesday), having had a serious relapse in the course of the past few days. ___________________________________ The opening of the magnificent new organ at St. Bees Priory Church on Tuesday, was an event of more than average importance in the history of the village. ___________________________________ Promoters of galas, entertainments, &c., should note that the Rowrah Mechanics' anniversary, picnic, and sports, are fixed for Wednesday, July 19. See advt. ___________________________________ The death is announced of DR. J. F. HOUGHTON, of Melmerby Hall and of Dublin, at the age of 52 years. The deceased was the patron of the living of Melmerby, Penrith. ____________________________________ It is generally believed that MR. SKELTON, Workington, the present owner of the old Braithwaite Mill and Coledale House, intends to convert the premises into an hotel. ____________________________________ One of the pleasant series of organ recitals which MR. H. W. RADFORD, F.G.C.M., organist and choir-master of St. James Church, Whitehaven, has given with so much acceptance in that church, is announced for Sunday afternoon next, when MR.
