DEATH OF MR. J. PICKTHALL, WHITEHAVEN. On Tuesday morning, MR. JOHN PICKTHALL, an old and well-known inhabitant of Whitehaven, died at his residence at Lonsdale Place, after a very short illness. Deceased was attending to his usual duties about a week ago, and caught a chill through getting wet, inflammation afterwards setting in. He was about seventy years of age, and was born at Parton. By trade he was a joiner, but he ultimately secured an appointment as attendance officer for the Whitehaven Union School Attendance Committee. He took the town district, and occupied the post for a considerable time. Of late years he has had his time fully occupied in his work as a house agent, and in this respect he had a rather extensive connection, as well as aN owner of cottage property. Shortly after his retirement from the office of school attendance officer, he offered himself as a candidate for the Board of Guardians. He leaves a widow, but no family.
