DEATH OF A CUMBERLAND MAN AT RYTON-ON-TYNE.

The death took place on Wednesday week, at his residence, Clara Vale, Ryton-on-Tyne, of MR. MARTIN COCKBAIN, a well-known former resident of Cleator Moor district.  MR. COCKBAIN had been in the Ryton district for some few years, but only about five weeks ago visited Cleator Moor, where he has numerous friends and relatives, on which occasion he conducted the morning service at the Primitive Methodist Church at that place.

He was subsequently seized with an attack of influenza, which developed other symptoms, and the illness ultimately proved fatal.

Deceased, who was 62 years of age, leaves a wife and family.

He was particularly well known in Methodist circles throughout the district, having been for several years a most active and acceptable local preacher in the Whitehaven Primitive Methodist Circuit, while resident at Cleator Moor, Egremont, and Moresby.

At all these places he rendered most effective service to the cause, and his warm-hearted interest in all that pertained to the success of the church, made him many friends.  He was one of those who established the mission at Moresby Parks, which since then has proved so successful.

On removing to Tyton-on-Tyne, he kept up his interest in religious work, and his visits to these parts since then have always been highly appreciated by his co-religionists, with whom he was a great favourite, and to whom the news of his death came as a great shock.  Much sympathy has been evoked for his sorrowing widow and family.
