The prisoner, a plumber and glazier, had for about six months cohabited with KEY, who is a married woman with a family, but separated from her husband. POTTER has recently been jealous of his paramour, and on Sunday night, the 14th ult., shortly after eight o'clock, he met her walking with a soldier in Bridge-street.
The soldier left her to speak to a friend, and the prisoner then made a rush at KEY, and with a razor inflicted a slight wound on her throat. He then aimed a second blow at her, when the razor struck her on the lower part of the chin, causing a severe but not very dangerous wound.
KEY ran screaming into the Bell Inn, and the prisoner then gashed his own throat with the razor, and fell insensible in the street.
They were both removed to the infirmary, where they remained under medical treatment until Monday. The prisoner who was not defended, asked no questions, and declined to make any statement in answer to the charge.
He was fully committed for trial at the ensuing assizes.
