TOBACCO DUTIES -- The deputation which waited upon the Chancellor of the Exchequer, upon the subject of a reduction in the tobacco duties, on Saturday, obtained the important information that her Majesty's government have the matter under its serious consideration. The subject of the frauds recently made public, formed a subject of conversation with the Minister, and they were made the basis of a request that the duties might be so much reduced as to check, if not entirely put an end to, the illicit trade carried on now so extensively in the weed. The deputation furnished the Chancellor of the Exchequer with many facts, by which their representations were much strengthened, for which the chancellor most courteously thanked them.
