THE LONGEST DAY AND THE SHORTEST DAY. -- On the morning of the longest day in the present year many ponds were covered with ice; on the morning of the shortest day the thermometer stood at 50 or nearly 24 degrees higher, and primroses are now in full blossom in many places.
