St John's Point Lighthouse, EAST COAST OF IRELAND. THE Corporation For Preserving and Improving the Port of Dublin, hereby give notice that a Light House has been erected on St. John's Point, Co. Down, from which a Light will be shown on the Evening of the 1st of May, 1844, and which will thereafter be lighted every Night from sun-set to sun-rise. Specification given of the position and appearance of the Light, by Mr. HALPIN, Inspector of Light Houses. The Tower is built on St. John's Point, at the East side of Dundrum Bay, in Lat. 54º 13´ 24´´. N. and Long. 5º 39´ 50´´ W. and bears. From Newcastle Pier, (Dundrum Bay) E. by S. ½ S. distant 7½ sea miles. From Helly Hunter Rock, (off the entrance of Carlingford Lough) E. by N. ½ N. distant 18 sea miles. From Rock-a-bill N. E. distant 40 sea miles. From Calf of Man, (Revolving Lights) N. W. ¼ N. distant 31 sea miles. The Light will be an intermitting Light, appearing of its full brightness during 45 seconds, and obscured for 15 seconds; the periods of Light and Eclipse succeeding regularly, it will be shown from W. by N. ½ N. seaward, to E. ½ N. and at an elevation of 62 Feet over the level of high water of spring tides. This Light kept open, will lead clear of Gun's Island, and of the St. Patrick's Rock, off the entrance of Strangford Lough. Mariners are cautioned to avoid the well known indraft of Dundrum Bay. The Tower is circular-colored-white. The projecting gallery and blocking over it are colored brown. The bearing stated are magnetic -- Var. 28º W. By Order, H. VEREKER, Sec.
