CUMBERLAND BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION. -- The anniversary ball in aid of this excellent charity took place on the 28th ult., when an assemblage of upwards of 500 persons from amongst the influential natives of the county and their friends, graced the spacious saloons of the London Tavern with their presence.  Much praise is due to the stewards and managers of the ball for their judicious arrangements on the occasion, no exertion having been spared that could tend to enhance the entertainment, which was in every respect worthy of the long-acquired reputation of the festive meetings of this institution; and dancing was maintained with great spirit to a late hour.  The net proceeds of the ball, it is presumed, will be about £100.  There are at present 37 persons receiving permanent pensions of £1 a month each from this society; and it is understood that the committee contemplate a considerable augmentation of that number at the next election of pensioners.  We therefore trust that many benevolent persons who have not hitherto been identified with this charity, will be induced to become contributors thereto, and thus co-operate in the extension of the benefits of so laudable an institution.
