Page 7 of 8 Current Events ___ Mr. David Lamb SHEPHERD, of Aberdeen, has been appointed postmaster of Whitehaven. Mr. SHEPHERD, who is a native of Stonehaven, joined the service of the Electric and Inter- national Telegraph Company in 1864. He was first appointed telegraph clerk at Edinburgh, in which city he was resident for about thirty years. In 1870, when the Government took over the telegraph system of the country, he was transferred to the Post Office service. In 1895, by which time he had reached the grade of assistant superintendent in the Edinburgh office, he was offered the post of superintendent of the telegraph branch at Aberdeen, which he accepted. During his residence in Aberdeen he has proved a most capable and efficient servant, and has earned the cordial esteem of all his colleagues. *************** |
