POLICE INTELLIGENCE CLEATOR MOOR, Friday. ****** A temporary license to sell at the Greyhound Inn, Winder, was granted to Mr. Jackson CASSON, on the application of Mr. CHAPMAN. ****** Wm. CROMWELL and John HAZZARD, mill hands, were each fined 5s. for doing willful damage to holly trees belonging to Jonas LINDOW, Esq. ****** John FARRAR (18), in the employment of Mr. DALZELL, butcher, Whitehaven, was charged with selling meat within the district of Cleator Moor Urban District Council, on the 22nd ult. -Defendant was discharged on payment of costs. ****** Michael WATERS (18), Wm. MAGAN (18), and Wm. BURNS (17), miners, were summoned for trespassing in pursuit of game, at Arlecdon, on the 17th ult. - Mr. CHAPMAN prosecuted. -Fined 10s. in each case. ****** Maggie WILLIAMSON (11), Winder, was charged on remand with having stolen on the 30th of December last, a diamond ring valued at £25, the property of Mrs. IRVING, Prospect House, Frizington. -Prisoner had been in the habit of running messages for Mrs. IRVING, and on the day named assisted the prosecutrix's servant in cleaning the house. The ring had not been recovered. The father of the prisoner was bound over in £5 for the child's good behaviour. ****** The Frizington Mining Company, Limited, were charged with keeping explosives, to wit, 16 boxes of detonators, in unregistered premises (the weigh office) at Birks Pit, Frizington, on the 10th ult. Mr. J. E. WATSON appeared for the Company, and said there had been no intention on their part to evade the law. He had not known that they were there. Case dismissed on payment of costs. ******* Patrick BYRNES (50), innkeeper, was summoned for permitting drunkenness on his premises the Black Bull Inn, Birks-road, on the 5th inst. -Mr. CHAPMAN defended. Case dismissed. |
